The Curious Mission:
Books do not find children on their own. Educators, librarians, booksellers, authors, illustrators and others need to entice children to be curious about the facts and fiction between the pages of books. Curious City assists those working alongside children to connect children with reading and genuine curiosity.
Who is Your Curious Bookseller?
Kirsten Cappy has been a devotee of children's books for innumerable years. She counts among her friends and advisors the most innovative librarians and educators and the most frightfully creative children's authors and illustrators. When she is not reading children’s books, she is telling people about them. From her reading and book conversations comes events, ideas and connections that she shares with children and those who care about their education.
Kirsten Cappy has worked with Children’s Book sales in several capacities over the last twelve years. As a merchandising manager and buyer for several New England Barnes & Noble Bookstore locations in the 1990’s, she has watched the rise of chain bookstore and their effect on both selection and sales of children’s books.
In 1997 Kirsten took her book title knowledge on the road for Baker & Taylor Book Distributors and then Koen Book Distributors, advising independent bookstores throughout New England on children and adult book buying.
As the Children’s Book Buyer and Event’s Coordinator at for the independent bookseller, Longfellow Books in Portland, Maine, Kirsten did extensive outreach to schools, creating quality book fair fundraisers for schools in Greater Portland. At Longfellow Books she also created an extensive author series both at the store and at the local Middle School.
